PRISM and ANGLE OF PRISM

PRISM

Prism is a transparent retracting medium bounded by at least two plane surfaces inclined at a certain angle.

ANGLE OF PRISM

The angle between two retracting surfaces of a prism is called angle of prism.

ANGLE OF DEVIATION

The angle between the direction of incident ray and the emergent ray is called angle of deviation.

The angle of deviation depends on

1. Angle of incidence.

With the increase in the angle of incidence , the angle of deviation first decreases ,then reach a minimum value then it also increases.

2.Refractive index of the material of the prism.

With the increase in the refractive index angle of deviation increases.

3. Colour o wavelength of light

With the increase in wavelength of light used, the angle of deviation decreases . Red is deviated the least and violet the most.

4. Angle of prism or thickness of the prism

The angle of deviation increases with increase in the the angle of de prism.

Which is always constant for a machine of given design: MA or VR ? Ans: VR remains constant for a machine of given design as it depends on the distances moved by the load and effort but MA can vary due to the friction developed between the moving parts of the machine.

What is Regelation?

The melting point of ice is 0°C at normal pressure but when you increase the pressure on ice it melts at the temperature below 0°C( i.e. melting point of ice decreases with pressure). When the pressure applied is released then water formed from ice starts freezing. This phenomenon is called REGELATION.

Why do we need moisturizers in winters?

Winters in most places have very low humidity. For that, the moisture of our body is lost easily and skin becomes dry quickly.
